A need in the market.
On the 1st of January 2000, Cathy McArdle launched McFoodies Ltd to enable her to contract her services designing internal quality systems for small food manufacturers.
Cathy soon identified a need in the market for a range of different Food Technology expertise (eg Product Development) provided on an "as-needed" basis. She set about matching up her client's needs with skilled Food Technologists wanting to work on contract.
A growing client base.
The flexibility of the McFoodies service has been - and continues to be - attractive to a diverse group of businesses. This has ranged from people who came back from a holiday with a concept for an exciting new product, right up to multinationals who need a Food Technologist to fill in a gap in their team. To meet the needs of its growing client base, McFoodies has expanded its range of services to also include;

- Product / process improvement or cost reduction
- Creation of Food Safety Programmes, and other internal Quality Management Systems

Fab Foodie Forums
To create an opportunity for small and medium food businesses to network amongst themselves, McFoodies runs free networking sessions which include presentations from experts within the Food Industry. Previous topics have included Lean Manufacturing, Contract Manufacturing, Branding and Consumer Research.
The Fab Foodie Forums run every 2 months in a café in Auckland. The sessions run for two hours (5pm to 7pm) and include free coffee and cold drinks.

Fab Foodie Finder
To help food related businesses quickly and easily find Contract Manufacturers and Ingredient / Packaging Suppliers who can offer specific capabilities or ingredients, McFoodies created the Fab Foodie Finder website.
Fab Foodie Finder is a free and anonymous service open to all. It contains a searchable database and provides a list of suppliers most applicable to the searchers' needs. The database continues to grow daily as more suppliers choose to list their services.

Label Live Software
Recently Cathy McArdle joined forces with Brian Quinnell of Formula Systems to create the Label Live application which is supplied via a new company called Elgenio Ltd

Label Live is a software application that calculates ingredient listings, nutrition information panels and allergen declarations for products using raw material information entered into an ERP database only once.
It creates reports in any format required, including with logos and pictures and uses very sophisticated calculations to make decisions. Label Live is used by McFoodies to create detailed reports for clients, in a standard and compliant format.
